Person of the month

The idea

The “Man/Woman of the Month” is a column on the SLCU website designed to bring talented and dedicated Sierra Leoneans living in the Netherlands to light. Through this initiative, we are better placed to collect, set a database and disseminate information about our talented Sierra Leoneans brothers and sisters.

 Procedure for selection

To be named “The man/woman of the month” you have to be nominated by someone and secondly, the person nominating must formulate sufficient facts and convincing evidence to prove that the candidate being nominated is really dedicated toward the Sierra Leonean development

Our Previous Nominee

Mr. Alhaji Mambo Kargbo

Mr. Bah is nominating Mr. Alhaji Mambo Kargbo, Assistance Social Secretary of SLCU as the man of the Month, for his vibrant and outstanding performance in mobilizing Sierra Leoneans during the SLCU outing and After Outing show on the 26th June, 2010 in Eerste, the Netherlands.

The reason for his nomination:
The SLCU have never been so close to this Embassy in the past. The Ambassador had honored our invitations, advise, support and had guided the development of our organization.

We express our sincere thanks and appreciation for his dedication and extend our gratitude to hm for the citizen-service in closing the gap between the Embassy and the Sierra Leonean Diaspora.

He had also continued to emphasize the need to put hands together for the development of Sierra Leone. We share his belief in and dedication to strengthening our countries economic recovery. It is our hope that he will continue to enjoy good health, and that he will continue to fill his years as Ambassador to Brussels.

We once again sincerely thank him for his passion and dedication to make Sierra Leone a better place for all.

Judging from the views our sierra Leonean community recommendations, our third nominee of man of the month is Mr. Mohamed Al Bah (DJ Ali).

Mohamed Alie Bah (DJ Alie) is a role model for Sierra Leonean's in the diaspora's.  Last year, DJ Alie invested his time, energy and money in organizing a successful political debate in Rotterdam, bringing all three Sierra Leonean political chapters to a discussion forum. This debate was documented, uploaded on the internet, and was made available for the Sierra Leonean community both in the Nederland and beyond. Dj Alie received as a result of this brilliant action, A Distinguished Member Certificate from the SLCU during the End of year Award night in Breda.

As part of his commitment, DJ Alie took up the initiative last year of interviewing and documenting the works of Sierra Leoneans in mobilizing support for our war torn country. On the 15th of March, 2008, a DVD “One man can Make a Difference” was lunched in Rotterdam in collaboration with the SLHO. The lunching ceremony was followed by a spectacular disco in Dordrecht supported by “Dry Yay Crew” from Sierra Leone.
